Get Involved & Stay Involved
Now that you are interested in getting involved, we’ll give you a couple of tips to make it easier to stay involved and make the most of your involvement!
Suggestions to learn more - Look through the Student Involvement Guide which is available at Orientation or from the SAO.
- Check out the SAO website regularly.
- Look through Snapshots, the SAO’s bi-weekly online newsletter.
- Stop by the Student Activities Office and Student Organization Center regularly.
- Read The Michigan Journal and look for features and announcements about student organizations and upcoming events.
- Pick up a copy of the Student Activities Office Campus Calendar and visit the online campus events calendar.
- Talk with people about your interests- someone could feel the same way as you!
- Attend Welcome Week & Winter Welcome.
- Read the fliers and banners posted around campus announcing upcoming programs.
How to balance it all - Use a planner and schedule your classes, exams and deadlines and organization involvement.
- Prioritize- what is most important to you; what is not.
- Think of the long term, not just what is important now.
- Watch less TV and spend less time on the computer.
- Remember that you are here to learn - academics come first!
- Stay balanced and healthy! Get enough sleep, eat well, and take care of yourself.
Making Choices - Take initiative.
- Challenge yourself to try new things. Who knows, you might just find a new interest, or discover something that you know you don’t like.
- Support yourself when the going gets tough. It is ok to say, “No” when you get over-committed.
- Never be afraid to ask questions.
- Always read over new information.
- Be assertive.
- Make a list of things you’d like to do while you are a student at Dearborn and take steps to achieve these goals!
