The University of Michigan-Dearborn is one of a select group of campuses in Michigan that annually awards several students, after an in-depth application process in the fall, as Michigan Service Scholars (MSS). Our Michigan Service Scholars are outstanding students who are committed to making their communities better places through service.
What is the Michigan Service Scholars (MSS) AmeriCorps Program?
Michigan Service Scholars have to complete 300 hours of community service during one calendar year to be awarded a $1,000 AmeriCorps education award, to be used for qualified educational purposes. Community service hours can be completed during the academic year and/or over class breaks. To complete 300 hours over a regular academic year, students would need to average 9 to 10 hours of community service per week. For additional information on MSS, click here.
Applications for the Michigan Service Scholars award are made available in the early fall. If you have questions about the MSS program, please email: the_civic@umd.umich.edu
